General

in general, most people are visually inclined and have very short attention spans. you must engage them and keep them interested. many people reading this publication are already interested in the virtual experience, but really do not understand it fully. most likely, they want to be convinced that it will enhance their lives in some way as far as finance, leisure, social life, self expression, or education. you must present your ads in as clear terms as possible to draw them into being even more curious. curious enough to go to your webspace or enter a virtual world to look around.

so the rules of thumb are:

1.visuals: catch the readers’ eyes and make them find your presentation cool or intriguing. be it your product, avatar, logo, or a real life service or enterprise. a reader should be like, "hey, cool, what's that?"

2. your story: straight to the point and definitive in what you have to offer and why it's worth noting and investigating further in a way that will be beneficial in some way to the reader

3. who’s listening: regular people that are intrigued by all this virtual stuff. some are enthusiasts, some are cynics. convince both to investigate further. do not assume every one is going to be alan kay and understand hugely complex stuff right off the bat, but at the same time, do not underestimate the average intelligence of those looking at your stuff. most people remember the whole dot com bust, so you might want to tone down on over-hype or fluff. people will appreciate a straight, clear and honest story.

independent advertisers

please have a look at templates and examples of smaller ads and listings here. it is in your best interest to show your goods or describe your services in as straight forward a fashion as possible. please refer to the examples for guidance.

larger advertisers

those of you that have PR and marketing should take into account the following for multi-page ads:

1.people need to know what it is exactly you are offering and why it might be of interest and benefit to them.

2.your ad is not just an ad...it is an overview of your services and offerings. all that will read it are not entirely metaverse savy. so please balance out neccessary technical information with content that will engage the causual lay person

3. these should not look like traditional ads. you have a story to tell and people want to hear it. tell it. please be a bit on the creative side as how you do so. user content, success stories, zany occurences. whatever it takes to engage people reading your presentation with your unique goods and services.

mature content advertisers

We would ask that you use discretion in advertising your services and goods. please remember that a wide variety of ages, values , businesses and beliefs, will be looking at all of this. it is better and more eloquent to cleverly imply, than to hit people over the head. we will provide some examples to help those that need it.

we also ask that your webspaces have an advisory notice so that minors do not enter...we will post them to your accounts to choose from and edit at your discretion.
